“Heartbeats and Worry” by Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind
This musical texture track was created as an assembly of mood elements for The Shining, and was delivered to Kubrick as a series of separate mono tracks. Kubrick and music editor Gordon Stainforth then used some of these elements throughout the film, most notably over the scene where Jack visits Room 237. It was also used as Jack destroys the radio, during Dick Hallorann’s flight to Colorado, and while Wendy is trying to get through to a catatonic Danny.
This track, not a part of the original soundtrack release, was released as part of Carlos and Elkiind’s full score, which is now out of print.
